Welcome Dr Natasha Hodgson, our 2015-16 Bullough Fellow

The 2015-16 Bullough Fellow is Dr Natasha Hodgson from Nottingham Trent University.

Dr Hodgson is a Senior Lecturer in Medieval History at Nottingham Trent University where she is developing a Centre for the study of Religion and Conflict in Medieval and Early Modern Societies. Her research centres on natasha bookthe crusades from the eleventh to fifteenth centuries and incorporates settler societies in Iberia, the Baltic, and the Latin East. She has a particular interest in gender, social history and historical writing. Her Phd (Hull, 2006) was published by Boydell as Women, Crusading and the Holy Land in Historical Narrative in 2007.  After working on two AHRC funded Domesday projects (Hull Electronic Domesday and PASE Cambridge), she returned to crusader studies and has since written on diverse topics such as Norman identity, Cilician Armenia, bestial imagery, honour and shame, and crusading masculinities. She is also the editor of the new Palgrave series Themes in Medieval and Early Modern History.

Dr Hodgson is in St Andrews for Semester 1 of the academic year and will be working on an essay for the forthcoming Cambridge History of the Crusades and a new monograph for Palgrave Macmillan entitled Gender and the Crusades.

On 12 October, at the Monday Research Seminar, Dr Hodgson will be giving a paper entitled ‘Souls at the Crossroads: crusading ideals and medieval masculinities’.
